Wolverhampton Wanderers started their life as the St Luke’s church football team in the year 1877. The team merged with another side of the name of the ‘Wanderers’ 2 years later. In the year 1888, Wolves was installed as one of the founder members of the football league. The clubs first FA Cup victory came in the year 1893 before large crowds turned up at the Fallowfields. Wolves reached the FA Cup final in the years 1889, 1893 and 1896 however relegation in 1906 marked the start of 25 years playing in the lower divisions.
Frank Buckley took charge at the club in 1927 and helped them earn promotion in 1932 and he made Wolverhampton Wanderers into a major force in the football scene during the 1930’s, however, the golden era at Molineux started at the time of the appointment of Stan Cullis in 1948 and they went on to win the FA Cup in 1949. Wolves won their first league championship in 1954 and won it also in 1958 and 1959.
